My Digital Sandbox

On Websites and the Modern Internet

The internet of 2024 feels broken - algorithms seem to have defeated the human brain's ability to filter and cope. I've been considering whether there's still value in a personal website; the creation of a space deliberately outside that ecosystem.

  • Space for Expression: A website can be a place for thoughts, ideas, and projects. I do not see much value in social media currently. This website allows for exploration without the pressure of polish or performance.
  • Documenting My Journey: I want to track personal growth, technical learning, and broader life reflections. Having this record might encourage me to write during downtime and remember insights that are easy to lose.
  • Fostering Meaningful Connections: Perhaps a website could facilitate deeper, more focused conversations with like-minded individuals, away from the engagement-driven nature of mainstream platforms.
  • The Practice of Creation: The process of building and maintaining a website offers a practical challenge and creative outlet. It's an opportunity to develop a tangible skill.

It's unlikely that this website will attract an audience. Perhaps, in 2024, the real value lies in having a space for self-reflection and deliberate creation, rather than chasing visibility.
